Founder of Turner Equine Sports Medicine and Surgery
Dr. Turner founded his practice in 2016 following 12 years as an associate with Anoka Equine in Elk River, Minn. He concentrates exclusively on sports medicine, lameness and surgery. In addition to his practice duties, Dr. Turner is an Equitarian Workshop instructor and member of the Equitarian Honduras team, delivering medical care to working equids in the Third World; and a consultant for the Fédération Equestre Internationale, U.S. Equestrian Federation and USDA APHIS Horse Protection Program for Tennessee Walking Horse welfare.
His longtime involvement in organized veterinary medicine and the horse industry also includes current positions as president of the Minnesota Horse Council and chair of its Horse Welfare and Legislative committees, as well as a previous term as president of the Minnesota Association of Equine Practitioners.
Mimi Porter - Founder / Owner of Equine Therapy, Inc and Equine Health Care
Mimi Porter has been a practicing Equine Therapist since 1982. Her therapeutic skills were developed during 10 years as an athletic trainer at the University of Kentucky, but horses have been a part of her life since childhood, progressing from Pony Club to local competitions, to investor in yearlings, to racehorse owner. Pleasure horses now grace her small farm here in Kentucky, making the landscape more beautiful.
Her professional life as an Equine Therapist has taken Mimi all over the world from Ireland to Dubai and to the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia, where she was the first Equine Therapist to serve as a member of the Olympic staff.

Dr. Chris Newton, DVM - Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital
Dr. Chris Newton is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine. Following graduation from veterinary school in 1997, Dr. Newton began practicing in North Carolina, but returned home to his native Lexington in 2000 when he joined Rood & Riddle. He is a general practitioner with primary interests in equine sports medicine, physical therapy, alternative medicine and reproduction.
As a sport horse practitioner, Dr. Newton has served as the team veterinarian for the North American Junior Young Rider Championship for 10 years, the treating veterinarian for the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event for 12 years, and served as Rood & Riddle’s veterinary coordinator during the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. Dr. Newton is also an avid equestrian who graduated from Pony Club and competes regularly in eventing.
